COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE

The Crisis Center has grown in terms of its positive impact, professionalism and relationship with the community.  It has evolved to consist of 3 areas of responsibility:

  • Prevention (Help Line, etc.); community members access to confidential telephone counselling
  • Crisis intervention/outreach and aftercare services: home visits, crisis counseling, risk assessment, stabilization and referral, and
  • Community rehabilitation and special projects: special care and attention as required.

The main challenge has been to encourage community members to embrace the Help Line and other services as a safe, confidential and effective service.  The priority is and always has been to sustain funding and staffing levels.
